  • Upon filing a complaint or other initiating document, the clerk shall forthwith issue the required Summons CR 4.01.
  • A Civil Summons may be issued on HOLIDAYS and served on SUNDAYS. KRS 454.125.
  • Service of Process requirements can vary depending on case type. Please verify correct method with clerk to ensure proper service is being issued.

Personal Service via Sheriff

  • If serving in Kenton County there is a $60.00 charge per defendant (per service of process), made payable to Kenton County Sheriff. 
  • Service fees are collected in our office ONLY when a separate check made payable to Kenton County Sheriff is received. If paying by cash, the cash must be paid directly to the Sheriff’s office- 303 Court Street Covington, Ky.
    * If serving by an outside agency, please contact the Sheriff’s office of the county where serving for the amount of the fee.

Certified Mail-  These fees vary due to weight amount of filing but generally are $11.89 per defendant (check is to be made payable to John Middleton, Kenton County Circuit Clerk).  See Fees for postage by weight.

Secretary of State – $16.35 per defendant or $10.00 per Business by check made payable to Kentucky State Treasurer.
