{"id":1336,"date":"2016-01-26T21:03:25","date_gmt":"2016-01-26T21:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kentoncourtclerk.org\/?p=1336"},"modified":"2023-01-25T15:10:53","modified_gmt":"2023-01-25T15:10:53","slug":"serviceprocesscircuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kentoncourtclerk.org\/?p=1336","title":{"rendered":"\u2022 SERVICE OF PROCESS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When a complaint or other initiating document is filed, a summons is required to be prepared for issuance by the Clerk.<\/p>\n<p>Summons may be served by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Personal Service<\/li>\n<li>Certified Mail<\/li>\n<li>Secretary of State \/ Long Arm<\/li>\n<li>RAP &#8211; Return Attorney Plaintiff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Personal Service (Sheriff)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If serving in Kenton County there is a $60 charge per defendant (per service of process), made payable to Kenton County Sheriff.<\/li>\n<li><span>Service fees are collected in our office ONLY when a separate check made payable to Kenton County Sheriff is received. If paying by cash, the cash must be paid directly to the Sheriff\u2019s office- 303 Court Street Covington, Ky.<\/span><br \/>\n* If serving by an outside agency, please contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentuckysheriffs.org\/directory-of-sheriffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheriff&#8217;s office of the county where serving<\/a> for the amount of the fee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Certified Mail<\/strong> (these fees vary due to weight amount of filing)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Civil Cases (not eviction)- $<\/strong>12.51 per defendant (per service of process). \u00a0See\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kentoncourtclerk.org\/fees\/\">Fees for postage by weight.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Small Claims &#8211; <\/strong>$14.99 per defendant (per service of process).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Secretary of State \/ Long Arm- $<\/strong>16.65 per defendant or $10 per business made payable to Kentucky State Treasurer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Return Attorney Plaintiff &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0the plaintiff may direct that the summons be returned to them (or their attorney) to handle service of process.<\/p>\n<p><span><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">***Reminder \u2013 Our office is prohibited from providing legal advice.
