• INVOLUNTARY HOSPITALIZATION


  • Involuntary hospitalization proceedings include the hospitalization of adults diagnosed with a mental illness. Initially, evaluation and treatment will occur locally but if further treatment is needed the individual may be transferred to Eastern State Hospital located in Lexington, Kentucky.
  • There is no filing fee.
  • This process begins at THE KENTON COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE 1840 Simon Kenton Way Covington, KY 41011. Phone: 859-491-0600.

Information requested to complete an Involuntary Hospitalization petition:

  • Respondent’s (person in need of treatment) name and complete address, social security number, date of birth, and name of two qualified health care professionals for evaluation of respondent.

All cases also require a Civil Case Cover Sheet which can be found here.

Confidentiality:

All involuntary hospitalization proceedings and records are confidential. They are open to the respondent, the county attorney when assisting the petitioner, and the Commonwealth.  A court order is required for other individuals seeking access to the case file.
